Times Square

Times Square
Times square I believe is extremely memorable and unique to the city. Times Square is famous for its annual New Years Eve ball drop when the clock strikes midnight. The ball begins to move at 11:59 each year down the forty-three metre flag pole. People from all over the world come to see this surreal event and gather on the ground dressing up, dancing, socialising and taking part in the event.
This event was founded by Adolph Ochs, head of The New York Times to promote that One Times Square was their new head quarters.
The roads are blocked early on New Years Eve. Grids are set out to section out times square into different zones. No alcohol or backpacks are allowed in. There are large checkpoints patrolled by the NYPD(New York Police Department). Checks have increased nine/eleven for safety of the attendants.
